Best Places in Scotland for Couples & Engagement Photos

Hello! My name is Alan Fletcher, and I own Fletch Wedding Photography. I am a Scotland wedding photographer, specialising in romantic couples, engagement, elopement, first look wedding photography, and candid wedding photographs. Although I am based in the Glasgow, Scotland area, I work within a 100-mile radius. I’d like to tell you about some of my favourite places in Scotland for couples, engagement, and wedding photography.

One of my new favourite spots is Whitelee Wind Farm on the Eaglesham moor in Scotland, which officially opened to the public in 2009. The visitor centre gives access to a network of over 90 km of paths for walking, cycling, or horseback riding. The wind farm area includes Lochgoin Farm and Monument, which is a beautiful historic spot for romantic engagement and elopement photographs.

The best places for romantic pre-wedding and wedding photographs near Glasgow include The Lighthouse, Glasgow Cathedral, the University of Glasgow, the Botanic Gardens and Pollok Park. These magical places provide endless opportunities for amazing backgrounds and visually stunning romantic Scotland photographs.

Glencoe is another stunning place for photographs. The backdrop of the Glens, rivers, mountains, valleys and dramatic scenery makes Glencoe one of the most incredible locations in Scotland for wild and romantic photos.

Fort William is on the shores of Loch Linnhe, in the western Scottish Highlands. It is home to the UK’s highest peak, Ben Nevis, the Glen Nevis valley, and Steall Falls. Often described as the outdoor capital of the UK, Fort William has sandy beaches, dramatic hills, rolling green fields, rivers, castles, and iconic film locations. There are so many opportunities here for breathtaking photographs!

Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park has endlessly varied wild scenery, from snow-capped mountains to wide-open lush landscapes, sprawling glens and wooded nooks, not to mention the famous loch!  The history, rugged beauty and terrain variation make this an absolutely stunning place for Scotland pre-wedding and wedding photographs.

Cairngorms National Park is the home of five of the UK’s highest mountains, as well as lochs, wildlife spots, quaint villages, rivers and forests, and ancient fortresses. The Glenlivet Estate has some of the finest landscapes of the Grampian Highlands. Ballindalloch Castle has beautiful formal gardens, woodlands, riverside walks and the ancient estate. The Ruthven Barracks ruins stand on a hilltop overlooking surrounding landscapes. The park has so many beautiful walks, waterfalls, glens, castles and grounds that the opportunities for truly unique photographs are endless.

Lastly, Edinburgh has been Scotland’s capital since at least the 15th century. Its medieval Old Town and Georgian New Town, as well as Edinburgh Castle, the city skyline, cobbled streets, waterways and monuments, provide amazing historic backgrounds for magical elopement and engagement photos.

My advice is to pick a place that means something special to you, and somewhere you feel at peace. Then get in touch with me, and let me make your Scotland couples, elopement, engagement and wedding photographs uniquely reflect your authentic love story.
